My user could not resolve any name (local NAS, Google etc) but a guest user on the same iMac (OS X 10.7.4) worked fine. Flushing and restarting mDNSResponder as mentioned worked for a while. Whilst it would remain working when the iMac was put in sleep mode, it would always fail once rebooted.
